The best flea market that you don’t know about, and it’s FREE!
I rarely rant and rave about things, but this is possibly the greatest concept for a flea market! It’s online, eco-friendly, a great way to meet some neighbors and free. It’s called Freecycle, it’s an online community that has posts for all kinds of things that people are giving away. Beds, bikes, furniture, film, building materials and all kinds of random and wonderful things.

How does it work, join for free, then search the listings in your community, find ( or give away) all kinds of wonderful stuff, and when you find what you like, send them an email with an explanation of what you’d like (tip: include why or what your planning on doing with the item). The givers get to choose who gets what. It’s that simple.

This was a great resource for victims of the Katrina disaster. In an act of goodwill Patty Valance from the Tucson Jewish Community Relations Council utilized Freecycle to furnish 167 apartments.

The founder Deron Beal had a study from University of Iowa done on behalf of Freecycle that shows the network also helps to keep 300 tons of trash out of landfills every single day.

It’s a great way of giving, meeting, and actually giving back to other people directly in your community.
